Palm Cay Yacht Charter: Marina, Beaches & the Gateway to the Exumas

Located on the southeastern coast of New Providence, Palm Cay is one of the most convenient yacht charter bases for exploring the waters east of Nassau and cruising toward the Exumas. The private 69-acre waterfront community combines a large full-service marina with white-sand beaches, restaurants, pools, watersports facilities, and resort-style amenities.

Its greatest advantage is location. Palm Cay sits away from the commercial traffic of Nassau Harbour and significantly closer to the Exuma Cays, making it particularly attractive for yachts beginning a southbound itinerary. The marina is approximately 28 miles from the northern Exumas, allowing guests to leave New Providence and begin genuine island cruising relatively quickly.

For charter guests, Palm Cay offers an easy transition between city convenience and remote Bahamas cruising. Embark the yacht, enjoy lunch beside the marina or relax on the beach, then depart toward Rose Island, Eleuthera, or the Exumas without needing to navigate through central Nassau first.

Palm Cay Marina is approached from the waters off the southeastern coast of New Providence. Two lighted markers roughly one mile offshore lead toward the shared approach for Palm Cay and neighboring Port New Providence, with coral heads lying on both sides of the channel. Closer to shore, Palm Cay's narrower entrance branches away toward the marina basin.

Access should be coordinated with the harbourmaster before arrival, particularly because the marina uses a security sea gate at its entrance. Palm Cay's official information currently lists vessels from approximately 18 to 100 feet and reports depths of around 9 feet at low tide and 12 feet at high tide. Captains of larger or deeper-draft yachts should confirm actual conditions and berth availability directly before approaching.

Palm Cay is primarily a marina destination rather than an anchoring destination. The coastline immediately outside the marina is relatively exposed and crossed by the marked approach channel, so visiting charter yachts will normally berth inside Palm Cay Marina rather than use the waters directly offshore as a conventional overnight anchorage.

Yachts that prefer to remain at anchor have more attractive options nearby around Rose Island and Athol Island, both easily reached from Palm Cay. These provide recognized sandy anchorages and better opportunities to combine an overnight stop with swimming, snorkeling, and secluded beaches before continuing toward the Exumas.

Palm Cay Marina currently advertises 194 fixed-dock slips, fuel, water and electrical connections, pump-out facilities, Wi-Fi, concierge service, showers, laundry, dining, a beach club, pools, fitness facilities, and watersports. It is also currently designated as an official Bahamian Port of Entry, allowing eligible visiting vessels to complete customs and immigration formalities onsite.

The surrounding Palm Cay community adds a more resort-like experience than most yacht bases on New Providence. Guests have access to white-sand beachfront, restaurants and bars, pools, spa and fitness facilities, tennis and paddle courts, while the marina itself provides provisioning support before longer Bahamas itineraries.
