Cape Eleuthera Yacht Charter: Marina, Beaches & Southern Eleuthera

Set at the southern end of Eleuthera between Exuma Sound and Rock Sound, Cape Eleuthera is one of the island's most complete yacht charter bases. Rather than a traditional Bahamian settlement, the cape revolves around a full-service marina and resort surrounded by secluded beaches, reefs, deep offshore water, and the largely undeveloped landscapes of South Eleuthera.

The centerpiece is Cape Eleuthera Resort & Marina, with 47 slips accommodating yachts up to approximately 200 feet. Guests arriving by yacht have direct access to waterfront dining, resort accommodations, private beaches, diving, snorkeling, fishing excursions, and marina services, making Cape Eleuthera particularly convenient for yachts spending several days exploring the southern end of the island.

Beyond the marina, the attraction is the surrounding water. Cape Eleuthera sits beside the edge of Exuma Sound, where the Bahamian shelf drops dramatically into deep ocean, creating exceptional conditions for sportfishing, wall diving, shark encounters, and reef exploration. For charter guests wanting both comfortable yacht facilities and immediate access to wild Bahamian cruising, few locations on Eleuthera offer the same combination.

Cape Eleuthera Marina provides one of the most straightforward dedicated yacht facilities in South Eleuthera. The marina currently publishes a controlling entrance depth of 12 feet, with internal depths ranging from approximately 6 to 40 feet at mean low water. Waterway Guide lists an approach depth of about 12 feet and dockside depth around 10 feet.

Its position between Rock Sound and Exuma Sound also provides convenient access to both protected Eleuthera cruising and much deeper offshore water. Captains should still use current charts and confirm berth suitability directly with the marina, particularly for deeper-draft superyachts. The marina accepts yachts up to approximately 200 feet LOA and provides fuel, water, power, pump-out, Wi-Fi, and customs and immigration services on call.

Cape Eleuthera is primarily a marina destination rather than a major anchorage area. The southern coastline is comparatively exposed and does not provide the large, naturally protected roadsteads found at Rock Sound or Hatchet Bay. For yachts wanting dependable overnight protection and shore services, Cape Eleuthera Marina is therefore the preferred base.

Farther south, Lighthouse Point provides a remote anchoring option in roughly 10 to 15 feet of water, with useful protection from north through east winds. Holding can be difficult because of hard bottom, requiring crews to locate patches of sand, and current reports note major shoreside development nearby. It is better suited to settled conditions than as an alternative to the marina during poor weather.

Cape Eleuthera Resort & Marina provides accommodation, a swimming pool, private beaches, Harbour Pointe waterfront dining, a dive shop, excursions, fuel, and other yacht services. Its relative isolation makes it feel markedly different from Governor's Harbour or Rock Sound while still offering the infrastructure needed for an extended yacht stay.

The cape is also home to The Island School and Cape Eleuthera Institute, an internationally focused center for education, ocean research, conservation, and sustainability. The campus sits directly on the edge of Exuma Sound, where the continental shelf drops thousands of feet, reinforcing Cape Eleuthera's strong connection with marine research and ocean exploration.
