French Leave Yacht Charter: Pink Sands & Luxury in Central Eleuthera

Located immediately east of Governor's Harbour in central Eleuthera, French Leave is one of the island's most beautiful yacht charter destinations, combining an extraordinary pink-sand Atlantic beach with a sheltered marina on the calmer Bight of Eleuthera side. The island is narrow enough here that yacht guests can move easily between the protected harbour and the open-ocean coastline.

The centerpiece is French Leave Beach, historically known as Club Med Beach. Stretching for more than a mile along Eleuthera's Atlantic shore, its pale pink sand and clear turquoise water create one of the most striking beaches in central Eleuthera. Swimming, snorkeling, beachcombing, and long walks along the largely uncrowded shoreline are the main attractions.

French Leave also offers considerably more comfort than many remote Eleuthera anchorages. The French Leave Resort occupies a 270-acre preserve overlooking Governor's Harbour, while its private yacht marina gives visiting vessels direct access to the resort, historic Governor's Harbour, and the beaches on the opposite side of the island.

Yachts visiting French Leave generally approach from the Bight of Eleuthera into Governor's Harbour, rather than attempting to access the exposed Atlantic coastline beside French Leave Beach. The broad harbour provides the practical yacht access point, with the French Leave Marina positioned in its southeastern corner. Captains should use current charts, depth monitoring, good daylight, and local guidance when approaching the marina or surrounding anchorages.

French Leave Marina currently has fixed megayacht dockage with approximately 12 feet of dockside depth. The resort lists berthing for two yachts up to 160 feet, while Waterway Guide currently lists the largest vessel capacity at 180 feet, so larger yachts should confirm berth limits and availability directly before arrival.

Yachts that prefer to remain at anchor can use Governor's Harbour immediately outside French Leave, where approximately 7 to 12 feet of water is available across the principal anchoring zone. The best holding is generally found on the sandy band several hundred yards offshore, while the harbour is well protected from many easterly conditions but exposed to winds from the western quadrants.

A quieter alternative lies near Levi Island, roughly a mile north of Cupid's Cay. The anchorage offers approximately 8 to 10 feet of water with good holding in clear sand and useful protection from west through southeast. French Leave Marina also currently maintains five moorings for yachts wanting to remain close to the resort without taking one of its limited fixed slips.

French Leave Beach was formerly known as Club Med Beach, after the resort that once operated here before being destroyed by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. The beach remains one of Eleuthera's signature stretches of pink sand and can be reached from yachts anchored in Governor's Harbour with roughly a 15-minute walk across the island.

Today, French Leave Resort provides a more refined shoreside experience with luxury villas, dining, a pool, watersports, and marina access. Its location makes it particularly appealing for yacht guests who want to combine quiet beach time and luxury hospitality with the historic atmosphere of nearby Governor's Harbour.
