Rose Island Yacht Charter: Secluded Beaches & Turquoise Waters Near Nassau

Located just east of Paradise Island and Nassau, Rose Island offers one of the easiest ways to escape the capital and experience classic Bahamian yacht cruising. The long, narrow island is surrounded by brilliant turquoise shallows, white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and relatively undeveloped coastline, yet remains only a short cruise from Nassau's major marinas.

For yacht guests, Rose Island is particularly well suited to swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking, and relaxed afternoons at anchor. Parts of the island remain wonderfully quiet, while Sandy Toes provides a more social beach experience with snorkeling, dining, a beach bar, and other facilities ashore.

Its proximity to Nassau also makes Rose Island ideal for shorter charters or the first stop of a longer Bahamas itinerary. Guests can leave the city behind in the morning, spend the day surrounded by clear water and beaches, and either remain nearby overnight or continue east toward Eleuthera and the wider cruising grounds of the Bahamas.

Rose Island lies east of Paradise Island, with yachts generally approaching from Nassau through the waters between New Providence, Athol Island, and Rose Island. The northern coast is fringed by reefs and coral heads, so vessels should avoid approaching the shoreline casually and instead use current charts, good daylight, depth monitoring, and visual navigation.

The surrounding water becomes shallow quickly in places, making the yacht's tender particularly useful for reaching beaches and snorkeling areas. Larger yachts will generally remain in suitable deeper water while guests explore the coastline by tender, kayak, or paddleboard.

Rose Island offers several recognized anchoring areas, including Rose Island North, Rose Island Basin, and Rose Island South near Sandy Toes. The northern anchorage carries approximately 8 to 12 feet of water with excellent holding, but protection is limited and northerly winds can make conditions deteriorate rapidly.

The southern Sandy Toes anchorage offers approximately 7 to 9 feet of water with good holding in sand and convenient access to the beach facilities ashore. Rose Island Basin provides another option for shallow-draft vessels, although its confined dimensions make it unsuitable for many larger yachts. Captains should choose the anchorage according to yacht size, draft, wind direction, swell, and current conditions.

Rose Island is largely undeveloped and accessible by boat, making it a popular escape from Nassau and Paradise Island. Sandy Toes is the island's best-known organized beach destination, offering a private beach, guided snorkeling, kayaking, dining, and other facilities.

Coral reefs surrounding the island make snorkeling one of its strongest attractions. However, yacht crews should select swimming and snorkeling locations carefully because local operators are known to feed sharks in some areas around Rose Island, particularly near parts of the northern coast.
