Little Harbour Cay: The Hidden Heart of the Berry Islands

Little Harbour Cay lies near the center of the Berry Islands, surrounded by shallow turquoise banks, mangrove-fringed shorelines and a maze of largely undeveloped cays. The cay is best known for Flo's Conch Bar, a legendary waterfront restaurant that has become an institution among yachts and cruising boats passing through the Berry Islands. Flo's remains one of the most recognizable local experiences in this otherwise remote part of the archipelago.

Larger yachts will generally remain in deeper water and use their tenders to reach the settlement and Flo's. Cabbage Cay, near the entrance to Little Harbour, provides one of the closest anchoring options for vessels drawing more than approximately six feet. Conditions around the cuts can become uncomfortable when ocean swell enters from the west, so captains should select their approach and anchorage according to vessel draft, tide and current weather.

The northern anchorage at Little Harbour Cay offers depths of roughly six to eight feet with good holding in sand. It provides attractive protection in the prevailing easterly and southeasterly winds, but it is exposed to the west and is not recommended when a cold front or strong westerly conditions are expected. The surrounding shallows are also known for turtles and juvenile sharks, adding to the anchorage's remote natural appeal.

Very shallow-draft vessels can venture closer to Flo's, where moorings and a narrow route through the shoals exist, but depths can become extremely limited and a high-tide approach may be required. Larger charter yachts are better suited to anchoring farther out near Little Harbour Cay or Cabbage Cay before transferring guests ashore by tender.

Little Harbour Cay remains one of the more authentic and lightly developed stops in the Berry Islands. There are no large resorts, shopping districts or conventional marina complexes, which is precisely what makes it appealing on a Bahamas yacht charter.
