North Bimini is a charter location in Bimini & The Berry Islands, a yacht charter area in Bahamas.

North Bimini Charter Guide

North Bimini is the lively heart of the Bimini Islands and one of the most accessible yacht charter destinations in The Bahamas. Located around 50 miles east of the Florida coast, the island combines brilliant turquoise water, long white-sand beaches, excellent fishing and a relaxed Bahamian atmosphere within a compact cruising area. Its position at the western edge of The Bahamas also makes North Bimini a natural first stop for yachts arriving from Florida.

A North Bimini yacht charter offers an appealing balance between time ashore and exploration on the water. Alice Town provides restaurants, marinas and a glimpse into Bimini's long fishing heritage, while the island's western coastline is lined with beaches including Radio Beach, Blister Beach and Spook Hill Beach. Offshore reefs, wrecks and clear shallows create excellent conditions for snorkeling, diving, fishing and tender excursions.

North Bimini also works well as a base for exploring the wider Bimini chain. From here, charter itineraries can continue south toward South Bimini, Cat Cay, Gun Cay and Honeymoon Harbour, or use Bimini as the western gateway to longer cruises through The Bahamas. For charter guests looking for beautiful water without immediately committing to long passages between islands, North Bimini is an excellent place to begin.

North Bimini Navigation

Yachts generally approach North Bimini through Bimini Harbor, which separates North and South Bimini and provides access to the island's main marina facilities. The harbor entrance is affected by currents and shifting sand, so captains should rely on current charts, local conditions and up-to-date information when making an approach. Sandbars near the entrance can change over time, making daylight arrival preferable for vessels unfamiliar with the area.

Once inside Bimini Harbor, yachts have convenient access to Alice Town and several marina options along the eastern side of North Bimini. The surrounding waters are generally easy to explore by tender in suitable conditions, but shallow banks, reefs and changing depths require the careful visual navigation that is common throughout The Bahamas. North Bimini's compact size also makes it easy to combine a marina stay with short cruises to nearby reefs, beaches and neighboring cays.

North Bimini Anchorage

Anchoring directly around North Bimini is more weather dependent than in many protected Bahamian cruising areas. In settled conditions, yachts may anchor off the western coastline near Radio Beach or farther north, where clear water and easy beach access can make for a beautiful daytime stop. These positions are exposed to open water, however, and become less comfortable when winds or swell arrive from the west.

For overnight stays, many crewed charter yachts prefer the greater protection and convenience of Bimini Harbor. Marinas in and around Alice Town provide secure berthing close to restaurants, beaches and local attractions, while also giving guests an easy starting point for tender trips around North Bimini. Brown's Marina, for example, sits close to the harbor entrance in Alice Town and accommodates large yachts.

North Bimini General Information

North Bimini is a narrow island centered around Alice Town, the main settlement of the Bimini Islands. The island has a strong connection with sport fishing and has attracted anglers and visiting yachts for generations. Ernest Hemingway famously spent time in Bimini, while the nearby Gulf Stream continues to make the surrounding waters particularly well known for big-game fishing.

Despite its small size, North Bimini offers plenty to explore ashore. Golf carts are a popular way to travel around the island, while attractions range from the colorful Dolphin House Museum in Alice Town to the mysterious Bimini Road rock formation offshore. North Bimini's combination of beaches, history, diving, fishing and accessible marina facilities makes it one of the most versatile stops on a Bimini yacht charter.
