Little Inagua: The Caribbean's Largest Uninhabited Island and Marine Wilderness

Little Inagua is one of the wildest and most protected yacht charter destinations in The Bahamas. Located just northeast of Great Inagua, the island is completely uninhabited, has no freshwater and remains almost entirely untouched by development. The entire island and its surrounding marine environment are protected as Little Inagua National Park, established in 2002. The park is also designated as a no take zone, protecting both its terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

There are no navigation services or marine facilities on the island, so visiting yachts must be completely self sufficient.

Little Inagua has no formal marina or established all weather yacht harbour. Visiting yachts rely on fair weather anchoring along the lee side of the island, selecting suitable sandy bottom according to wind direction, swell and vessel draft. Because conditions can change quickly in this exposed part of the Southern Bahamas, an anchorage that is comfortable in easterly weather may become unsuitable after a significant wind shift.

Extra care should be taken when anchoring because Little Inagua and its surrounding waters form a protected national park. Coral habitat and sea turtle nesting areas should be avoided, and captains should confirm current Bahamas National Trust regulations before arrival. In less favorable weather, Great Inagua provides more established anchoring and dockage options nearby.

Little Inagua National Park protects the entire uninhabited island and surrounding marine ecosystem. The park has little to no visitor infrastructure or established trail system, preserving a landscape where wildlife remains the dominant presence. Sea turtles nest along its beaches, while birds, reptiles and other native species inhabit the interior. Wild goats descended from animals introduced generations ago can also be found on the island.
